Safety Superintendent, Northwestern Ontario Woodlands

If so, this Resolute Forest Products position of Safety Superintendent for our Northwestern Ontario Woodlands Operations will offer you rewarding challenges and opportunities.

Your Challenges:

  • The Safety Superintendent for the Northwestern Ontario Woodlands Operations reports directly to the VP Ontario Wood Products. You will be responsible for providing support and direction to ensure health & safety systems meet company and legislative compliance by performing the following duties:
  • Leadership support to Ontario Woodlands Management Team, and Key Contractor group on Health & Safety.
  • Administers annual corporate KPI’s and safety programs such as employee safey commitment, Pre-job risk assessments, hazard observations, etc., taking into account our company direction working with our Woodlands Contractors.
  • As required develop Resolute Health & Safety policies, procedures & certification programs.
  • Provide H&S leadership through management by example and relationship development.
  • Provide comprehensive and effective H&S training; as required design and implement training to address any gaps identified.
  • Create opportunities for expanded contractor involvement and participation in H&S matters.
  • Perform regular field audits.
  • Lead and/or oversee incident investigations and drive H&S action items to completion.
  • Conduct periodic assessments or inspections of H&S programs to identify and correct deficiencies related to compliance with the H&S policies and procedures.
  • Communicate, report, and as required develop metrics to track H&S performance.
  • Provide support on all disability management and return to work programs.
  • Health and Safety orientation for new staff and contractors.
  • Co-ordination of Health and Safety recognition program.

Your team:

  • Reporting to the VP Ontario Wood Products, you will be part of a dynamic team to which you will contribute vital skills.

Your profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health or safety, industrial hygiene, or other relevant field.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated progression in leadership roles

Your skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including making presentations to leaders and teams
  • Ability to work as part of a team, to communicate with all levels of the organization and to adapt quickly to change
  • Solid analytical skills and the ability to quickly make sound decisions based on experience and judgment
  • Excellent project and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Experience using data and metrics to identify and address Safety issues and trends
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated strong facilitation and issue resolution skills
  • Understanding of federal and provincial employment laws
  • Driving on bush roads
